About 3D Mammography

3D mammography, also known as tomosynthesis, is an advanced breast imaging technique that creates three-dimensional images for early breast cancer detection.

Performed alongside a conventional 2D digital mammogram, this next-generation technology captures multiple thin slices of the breast at different angles, improving the accuracy of diagnosis and reducing false positives.

What to Expect

Before Your Procedure

Avoid using deodorants, perfumes, lotions, or powders under your arms or on your breasts on the day of your exam to avoid artifacts on the images. Arrive on time and inform the staff if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

During Your Procedure

You will stand in front of the mammography unit while a technician compresses each breast between two plates. The 3D mammogram takes multiple images of the breast from different angles, usually alongside the standard 2D images, lasting a few minutes.

After Your Procedure

You can resume normal activities immediately. A radiologist will review the images and typically results are available within a few days. If any abnormalities are found, your healthcare provider will contact you for follow-up advice.
