at McLaren Macomb
The Macomb Cardiovascular Institute’s Structural Heart team offers innovative, leading-edge treatments for advanced cardiac issues.
Mitral Valve Repair & Replacement
McLaren Macomb offers traditional, robotic-assisted and transcatheter minimally invasive mitral valve repair procedures:
-
Valve repair – sometimes minimal, other times more extensive. Often possible for mitral valve regurgitation and tricuspid valve regurgitation.
-
Transcatheter Mitral Valve repair – a minimally invasive procedure placing an implant on the mitral valve. Typically a 1-2 hour procedure with an average one-night hospital stay.
-
Valve replacement – may include TAVR/TAVI or other minimally invasive procedure. Sometimes a more involved surgery or the insertion of a new valve is the best option.
Atrial Fibrillation (AF, A-Fib)
The cardiac experts at Macomb Cardiovascular Institute offer a variety of options for treating Atrial Fibrillation:
-
Medications to control heart rhythm, heart rate, and blood clotting
-
Device implants such as pacemakers
-
Catheter ablation by our electrophysiologists
-
Surgical ablation, including newer minimally-invasive procedures
WATCHMAN: The WATCHMAN device is an advanced, minimally invasive procedure for patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation who are at high risk for stroke but are no longer able to take a long-term anticoagulant. Current data shows the implant reduces the risk of debilitating and fatal strokes by 55%, and major bleeding six months post-implant by 72%.
