A convenient location for women to have their mammogram, annual physical, consult with a breast surgeon or enjoy a full body massage, the breast center at McLaren Port Huron offers the latest technology, highly trained specialists and private rooms. While detecting breast cancer at its earliest stages is the main goal of routine breast care such as a screening mammogram, other benign conditions, such as fibrocystic breasts or cysts, are often discovered. Comprehensive breast imaging technology, including 3D mammography, is used to detect breast changes that are common throughout a woman's life. It is important to see your provider regularly and get any breast exams or procedures he or she recommends. If a diagnostic mammogram or breast biopsy is needed, specialists are available on-site.

Images of the breasts that are used for women who have no breast symptoms or concerns.
A woman with a breast symptom (for instance, a lump or nipple discharge) or an abnormal area found in a screening typically gets a diagnostic mammogram.
Is the latest technology, enabling radiologists to view tissue images one millimeter at a time, offering significantly better clarity than ever before. The more advanced 3D mammography is capable of detecting cancer in dense breast tissue, when there is a lump, or when there is an increased risk of breast cancer. It also reduces false positives, sparing patients the worry and expense of follow-up tests. Tomosynthesis or 3D mammography is performed as a supplement to a conventional 2D mammogram.
Often used to examine a breast change when a mammogram shows dense breast tissues, uses sound waves to look inside the breast.
For women receiving their first mammogram, instruction on proper techniques of breast self exams are taught to increase self awareness of breast changes that should be reported to their health provider immediately.
Procedure uses digital mammography, while needle is inserted into the breast to acquire a small tissue sample for pathology testing to evaluate breast abnormalities from routine mammogram.
This diagnostic procedure uses ultrasound in place of mammography. A needle is inserted into the breast to acquire a small tissue sample for pathology testing.
A procedure performed by placing an ultrasound probe over the site of a breast cyst and numbing the area with local anesthesia. The radiologist then places a small needle directly into the cyst and withdraws fluid.
A two step process used to locate the abnormal tissue and placing a needle with a small wire threaded through it identifying the area to be biopsied. The surgeon then follows the wire implanted to locate the abnormality and it is then removed.
MRI scans use magnets and radio waves instead of x-rays to produce a very detailed cross-sectional picture the breast.
An MRI Biopsy is utilized when the suspicious area cannot be located by mammography or ultrasound. Computers are used to guide the radiologist in locating the area of concern, plot its location and help aim the probe into the breast.
Breast cancer risk assessment is very important for identifying women who may benefit from more intensive breast cancer surveillance.
