McLaren Oakland is a 318-bed hospital in Pontiac, Mich., that provides primary and specialty health care services to Oakland County communities.

McLaren Oakland has grown to a comprehensive medical community that includes outpatient facilities in Clarkston and Oxford, in addition to an inpatient hospital in Pontiac providing a range of clinical services including emergency and trauma care, cardiology, cancer services, minimally invasive robotic surgery, and orthopedic services.

McLaren Oakland offers ACGME accredited residency and fellowship programs in anesthesiology, diagnostic radiology, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine, and transitional year, in addition to a CPME accredited podiatry program.

Welcome to McLaren Oakland Graduate Medical Education.

McLaren Oakland’s Department of Medical Education stands by its mission to provide residents the skills, knowledge, and aptitudes that they need to provide patients safe, high value, and cost conscientious care in the primary and specialty health care services. McLaren Oakland offers nine residency programs and one fellowship program. In addition, experiences in numerous specialties are available to third- and fourth-year medical students.

McLaren Oakland is a member of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) Statewide Campus System, a national Graduate Medical Education consortium, which creates and delivers education programs for residents and faculty. As members, all McLaren Oakland residents, fellows, and teaching attendings can hold a faculty appointment with Michigan State University.

Annual Salaries (Effective 2024-2025):

PGY-1 = $57,165.00
PGY-2 = $58,879.95
PGY-3 = $60,646.35
PGY-4 = $62,465.74
PGY-5 = $64,339.71
PGY-6 = $66,269.90

DISCLAIMER: The Graduate Medical Education Trainee Physician Agreement is posted here as "sample only" to give applicants an idea of what to expect as a contracted employee of McLaren. This agreement is reviewed annually and thus the language is subject to change.

An official contract will be distributed to all matched residents and fellows as part of an onboarding checklist.

Applicants should submit their application material by using the Electronic Resident Application Service (ERAS). This is the only avenue by which applications will be considered. Candidates will not get special consideration by circumventing the process and emailing the program director or graduate medical education coordinator. This behavior is highly discouraged.

All applicants must be authorized to work in the USA, or must be a Canadian citizen or Canadian permanent resident who is eligible for J-1 visa sponsorship.

McLaren Health Care complies with the healthcare worker vaccine mandate, which requires all workers, including residents, fellows, and visiting learners to be fully vaccinated as of March 15, 2022.
