Program Information:
The McLaren Academic Health Psychology Programs (MAHPP) provides a two-year postdoctoral fellowship experience in clinical health psychology with an emphasis on medical education as part of a robust Graduate Medical Education program at McLaren Flint. The fellowship is primarily housed within the Department of Family Medicine at McLaren Flint, which is an engaging and dynamic system with opportunities for membership on committees, development of new services lines/curricula, and promotion of professional goals. Fellows gain clinical experiences in hospital consultation-liaison services, integrated primary care, multidisciplinary teams and group visits, psychosocial oncology, and outpatient assessment and psychotherapy. Fellows are also involved in teaching behavioral medicine and other clinical skills to medical students and resident physicians through formal didactics, as well as case based interactions and discussions. Additionally, opportunities exist for scholarly activity and most of the fellowship faculty are actively involved in current research, quality improvement, or program development activities. Upon successful completion of a MAHPP program, fellows possess: • Advanced practice clinical competency in Clinical Health Psychology • The ability to assume a leadership role in medical education and supervisory training. • Expertise in hospital and ambulatory practice utilizing a transdisciplinary model within a team process approach. • The ability to critically review research, make scholarly contributions to the field and adopt a commitment to lifelong learning. • MAHPP Fellows are employed by McLaren Flint and complete all clinical activities in both the inpatient and outpatient settings to include the Family Medicine Residency Center, Internal Medicine Residency Group Practice, and Bariatric Institute at McLaren Flint.
