ACR Accredited Cancer Screenings
Two important cancer screenings are available at the Owen Road location and both have received ACR accreditation.
McLaren Fenton is now an ACR designated lung cancer screening center and mammography accredited facility. To achieve the ACR Gold Standard of Accreditation, the facility's personnel qualifications, equipment requirements, quality assurance, and quality control procedures have gone through a rigorous review process and have met specific qualifications. It's important for patients to know that every aspect of the ACR accreditation process is overseen by board-certified, expert radiologists and medical physicists in advanced diagnostic imaging.
“The McLaren Fenton facility voluntarily went through the vigorous ACR review process to ensure that it meets nationally accepted standards of care,” said Adam Michaud, Director Business Development for McLaren Flint. “Patients expect high-quality care and this accreditation represents the hard work and commitment of the McLaren Fenton imaging staff.”
3D Mammography
McLaren Fenton's imaging capabilities include a 3D Mammography system as part of its ongoing commitment to provide the most clinically advanced services for patients.
3D mammography (tomosynthesis) is a revolutionary screening and diagnostic tool designed for early detection of breast cancer.
Until recently, the best mammogram was a digital mammogram. Featuring next generation technology, 3D mammography imaging acquires a series of images of the compressed breast at different angles. The system produces images that represent thin slices of the breast, allowing radiologists to view slices one millimeter at a time with clarity never before possible.
Now, when combined with conventional 2D digital mammography, breast cancer screening with tomosynthesis has a higher cancer detection rate than conventional 2D digital mammography alone.
What are the benefits of 3D mammography breast screening?
In addition to improved diagnostic accuracy, tomosynthesis significantly reduces false-positive recall rates, thereby avoiding unnecessary additional testing and reducing patient anxiety. Women who can benefit from 3D mammography particularly include:
- Women with dense breast tissue
- Women with a personal history of cancer
- Women between the ages of 40-60

McLaren has invested in state-of-the-art MRI technology at the Fenton Imaging Center location. The technology captures high resolution images in a less-confining space for a more comfortable experience, taking less time for most patients.
- Ingenia 1.5T S MRI
- A wider opening for more comfort
- A quieter, more relaxing, experience due to a ComforTone component that reduces scanner noise
- An AutoVoice system that gives clear instructions during the scan process and improves the audio and visual experience

Breast Ultrasound
A breast ultrasound is often used to examine a breast change when a mammogram shows dense breast tissues. It uses sound waves to look inside the breast.
Bone Density Scan
This diagnostic test uses a very small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body (usually the lower (or lumbar) spine and hips) to measure bone loss. It's the most common method for diagnosing osteoporosis and to assess an individual's risk for developing osteoporotic fractures. It is simple, quick and noninvasive.
Ultrasound
An ultrasound exam, or sonogram, is a safe and generally non-invasive procedure that utilizes high-frequency sound waves to image an internal body structure. During an examination, ultrasound provides a full-motion view inside the body, showing images of soft tissue, muscles, blood vessels, the heart, and other organs.
X-Ray
An X-ray (radiograph) is an exam that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions and is the oldest form of medical imaging.
