Level II Status
The Trauma Center at McLaren Lapeer Region is the Thumb area's only Level II Trauma Center. This prestigious status is granted by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma. Verification by the ACS is considered the gold standard in trauma care. To achieve Level II status, we demonstrated our commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for injured patients and met the stringent criteria and requirements as set forth by the ACS.
Not only did we receive Level II Trauma Center verification, we received a perfect score! As part of the verification process, ACS examiners attempt to identify 231 deficiencies or problem areas. We had zero.
Fast Access to Care
When someone suffers a traumatic injury, fast access to care is extremely important. Your chance of surviving a trauma is greatest if you receive expert care at a highly-equipped medical facility within the first hour after injury. This is why emergency room physicians and paramedics call the first hour after injury “the golden hour."
In Michigan's Thumb area, McLaren Lapeer Region is the only Level II Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma. This means McLaren Lapeer Region is capable of providing optimal care for critically injured patients.
With board certified emergency medicine specialists and trauma-trained surgeons available in minutes, our Trauma Center is designed to provide optimal care needed to stabilize patients within the first 60 minutes after the onset of injury.
Multidisciplinary Care
Every hour of every day, a multidisciplinary team of medical specialists is available to provide immediate care to trauma patients at McLaren Lapeer Region.
Depending on the injury, the multidisciplinary trauma team may include board certified:
- Emergency medicine physicians
- Trauma surgeons
- Neurosurgeons
- Orthopedic surgeons
- Interventional radiologists
- Plastic and reconstructive surgery specialists
Other members of the multidisciplinary trauma team include highly trained trauma nurses, case managers, clinical social workers, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other medical professionals.
Advanced Technologies and Services
With advanced technology and support services available around the clock, the Trauma Center at McLaren Lapeer Region serves a vital role in our community and the surrounding area. ACS Verified Level II Trauma Centers are required to provide immediate access to diagnostic tests and equipment, allowing physicians the ability to make rapid decisions about appropriate patient care.
The Trauma Center at McLaren Lapeer Region features 24-hour access to:
- Four trauma bays equipped with the latest technology
- A blood bank
- Laboratory services
- Diagnostic radiology
Access to advanced technology and diagnostic services enable our board-certified emergency medicine physicians and trauma surgeons to quickly react to injuries, resuscitate, stabilize and provide emergency medical care to the most critically injured patients.
Rehabilitation and Recovery
When the trauma is over, we work closely with physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists to help patients get back to their normal activities as quickly as possible. Continuity of care is extremely important. That's why patients may start rehabilitation while still at McLaren Lapeer Region. The trauma team also makes recommendations for post-discharge rehabilitation care and educates patients about resources that can help.
