McLaren Port Huron awards physical therapy scholarships

Port Huron, MI – McLaren Port Huron recently awarded two scholarships totaling $6,000 through the Shirley Jardine Carter Memorial Physical Therapy Scholarship. Shirley Jardine Carter was a physical therapist at the hospital who tragically passed away in 1990. The scholarship was established by her family and friends in her memory.

The 2017 scholarship recipients are:

Addie Ingles, a St. Clair High School graduate, is attending Grand Valley State University, where she will graduate as a physical therapist in August 2018. Ingles is active in Grand Valley State’s Colleges Against Cancer and Camp Sunshine. She also recently completed a service-learning trip to Guatemala.

Jenna Page, a Port Huron High School graduate, is attending Wayne State University, where she will graduate as a physical therapist in December 2018. Page is active in the Wayne State University Go-Girls mentor program and the Detroit Medical Center Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan’s stroke camp.

In 2017, McLaren Port Huron and its health care partners have awarded 16 individuals pursuing degrees in nursing, physical therapy, and other medical professions with scholarships totaling $25,000. Since 1988, 438 students have received $483,250 through the hospital’s scholarship programs.
