McLaren Northern Michigan is pleased to welcome Christopher Kennedy, DPM, AACFAS, podiatric surgeon to McLaren Northern Michigan Orthopedics, located in the McLaren Medical Office Building, located at 560 W. Mitchell Street, Suite 560, in Petoskey.
Dr. Kennedy was born in Boston, MA and raised in Rochester, MN. While attending the University of Minnesota for a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience, he worked as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Dr. Kennedy went to medical school at Kent State University of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, OH. He completed his residency in reconstructive rearfoot podiatric medicine and surgery at Detroit Medical Center / Wayne State University. He continued his training at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he pursued a complex limb salvage and reconstruction fellowship.
When asked why he chose McLaren Northern Michigan to practice medicine, Dr. Kennedy replied: “I wanted to find a place that focused on quality, compassion, and community, and I found that in McLaren Northern Michigan. I am excited to join a growing orthopedic team and bring my enthusiasm and expertise to the area.”
Dr. Kennedy specializes in sports-related injuries, fracture management, total ankle replacement, bunion repair, deformity corrections, as well as diabetic limb preservation and reconstruction. “I am dedicated to quality improvement, research, and technique development,” he expressed. “I enjoy tactile work and critical thinking; I carry this forward to medicine and surgery.”
In his free time, Dr. Kennedy enjoys fly fishing, Nordic skiing, mountain biking, cooking, music, and spending time with his wife and two-year-old chocolate lab, Emmylou. He recently earned his private pilot’s license and plans to take in the beauty of northern Michigan from every height.
