I did my undergraduate and medical school at Michigan State, then went to Chicago to endure the twin challenges of doing residency at Cook County and becoming a lifelong Cubs fan. I came to Flint to work with Lew Simoni, who was a great mentor and teacher. I came to McLaren in 1994 with him and Dr. Hunt to start the new program, and became the director after Lew passed away. When Dr. Mercer "retired" in 2011, I took over the nursing home rotation teaching, and found that I really enjoy working with the older people and in the rehab setting. So now my main focus in practice and teaching is geriatrics. But I still enjoy seeing some kids, including the kids of people whose little brother or sister I delivered. No "grandoctor" event yet. No grandchildren, either. I gave up the leadership of the program at the end of the 2012-2013 academic year, but will stay around to help and support Dr. Plensdorf as he leads the program through the next set of challenges.
