Last Steel Beams Raised for McLaren Greater Lansing’s New Hospital

McLaren Greater Lansing, McLaren Health Care

Less than five months after placing the first steel beam for a new $450 million hospital in South Lansing, McLaren Greater Lansing is celebrated the final steel beam placement at a traditional “topping out” ceremony on October 25, 2019.

Leaders from McLaren Greater Lansing and the construction team gathered to thank the project’s ironworkers for their incredible achievement before joining Sparty to give the signal to hoist the final 30-foot beam to the top of the ninth floor. It took just minutes for the skilled workers to place the beam, serving as the last of the more than 5,200 pieces of structural steel that make up the hospital’s frame.

“This is an incredibly exciting moment for out staff and community,” said Kirk Ray, president and CEO of McLaren Greater Lansing. “People have been able to see the future of health care literally rise from the ground up, one piece of steel at a time, as they pass by on the highway.”
