McLaren and Karmanos are bringing ear, nose and throat (ENT) services to patients throughout Genesee and Lapeer Counties and beyond by launching a comprehensive ENT service line. The service line features five convenient locations, two in Genesee County and two in Lapeer County, for general ENT conditions and a head and neck cancer clinic at the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint. Patients of all ages with common ear, nose or throat conditions and cancers of the head and neck can now receive integrated, personalized, and compassionate care from experts at McLaren and Karmanos.
“McLaren and Karmanos are pleased to be able to offer comprehensive ear, nose and throat services to the residents of Genesee and Lapeer Counties and further our capabilities to treat head and neck cancers through advanced surgical, radiation, and proton therapy treatments,” said Chad Grant, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of McLaren Health Care. “We have been working diligently to meet the growing ENT needs of the communities we serve and know patients will benefit from access to these highly trained physicians.”

“McLaren Lapeer Region is proud to build upon our already strong ENT service line and adding access points for common ENT ailments for residents of Lapeer County and the surrounding communities,” said Chris Candela, President and Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Lapeer Region. “As Lapeer County’s only Level II Trauma center, we must remain prepared to meet the emergency ENT needs of residents of all ages as well as routine ENT care.”
The ENT specialists are trained to provide comprehensive care from young infants to the elderly for diseases affecting the ears, nose, and throat. Among the illnesses they treat are recurring ear infections, tinnitus (ringing or noise in the ear), sinus infections-including chronic sinusitis, tonsillitis, abnormal growths in the neck or vocal cords, swallowing disorders and dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), chronic sore throats and Meniere’s Disease-a disease of the inner ear. Common surgical procedures they perform include tonsillectomies, ear tube placement, sinus surgery, throat surgery and head/neck surgery.
Prior to launching the head and neck cancer clinic at the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint last year, patients were forced to travel for advanced care, according to Justin Klamerus, MD, MMM, president of Karmanos Cancer Hospital & Network.
“Cancers of the head and neck can be particularly debilitating for patients especially when they have to travel for advanced cancer care,” Dr. Klamerus said. “One of the advantages of Karmanos Cancer Institute’s integrated clinics throughout the McLaren system is that we can bring world-class treatments to the local communities we serve, evidenced by our commitment to a head and neck cancer clinic in Genesee County.”
