MSU Health Care at McLaren Greater Lansing Breast Imaging Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
“This achievement highlights the commitment our facility, staff, and physicians place on providing the highest quality breast care for our patients,” said David Rawson, DO, lead interpreting physician at the MSU Health Care at McLaren Greater Lansing Breast Imaging Center. “The Breast Imaging Center is now dual accredited by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Center of Excellence and by the American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. These represent the highest levels of quality possible in the delivery of breast care.”
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy), and breast MRI.
Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that this facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
In addition to being accredited in the mandatory mammography accreditation program, the Breast Imaging Center became accredited in all voluntary breast-imaging programs and modules.
“The process to receive this recognition is very detailed and we’re excited to have received this prestigious recognition,” said Holly Peterson, assistant radiology administrator at MSU Health Care Imaging Services. “It speaks very highly of the support and collaboration between MSU Health Care and McLaren Greater Lansing.”
McLaren Greater Lansing and MSU Health Care partnered in 2022 on a new state-of-the-art breast imaging center by combining the locations for McLaren’s Breast Care Center and MSU Health Care Women’s Imaging Center at McLaren’s new hospital campus that opened in March 2022.
“Combining the best of both facilities has allowed us to bring higher quality and more efficient care to one convenient location for the community,” said Peterson.
The Breast Imaging Center promotes the importance of early detection of breast cancer through screenings using the latest technology in 3D mammography. Women are recommended to have yearly breast screenings starting at the age of 45. To schedule your mammogram, click here.
