McLaren Port Huron offering free mammograms to uninsured during October

McLaren Port Huron, part of McLaren Health Care and the leading health care provider of St. Clair County, will offer free mammograms — the screening procedure to detect the early signs of breast cancer — to uninsured women throughout October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Provided through the Demashkieh Women’s Wellness Place, McLaren Port Huron’s breast care center located on its main campus, the program is supported by the Donna M. Niester Breast Cancer Fund, Northgate Ford Free Mammogram Fund, and X-Ray Associates of Port Huron.

“Mammograms have long been the standard for the early detection of breast cancer, and they have proven to be vital to women’s wellbeing,” said Dr. Kimberley Clark-Paul, a breast surgeon at McLaren Port Huron. “Through early detection, we can be proactive with our care plan and increase our patients’ chances of an enhanced outcome. For that, these are crucial screenings for all women.”

The free program is open to women who are due for the regular screening and to those who have never yet had a mammogram.

“We view our organization as being a service to our shared community, and to recognize its health care needs and to provide for them,” said Eric Cecava, McLaren Port Huron President and CEO. “We’re proud to be in this position and partner with these organizations to increase access to this vital screening for those who can benefit from it the most.”

Appointments are limited throughout October. To make an appointment, patients can call (810) 989-3270.

A physician order is required for the screening. If a patient needs to obtain an order, an appointment with a McLaren Port Huron primary care physician can be made at mclaren.org/phdoctors.
