Routine screening can lead to early breast cancer detection, which can help save lives. That is why the McLaren Flint Foundation is teaming up with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to sponsor a free breast screening event for the uninsured and underinsured. Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint Breast Surgeon Dr. Ashley Richardson will perform the screenings, which include clinical breast exams.
The free breast screenings will be available on Monday, October 30, 2023, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at McLaren Flint Women’s Health South, 1314 S. Linden Road, Suite A, in Flint. Call ahead for an appointment at (810)-342-1757.
One in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. One in 833 men will be diagnosed. The American Cancer Society recommends women at average risk start having screening mammograms every year, starting at 45. Women at higher risk may need to begin screening earlier and should talk with their doctors about the various screening options available.
