MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—McLaren Central Michigan, the 118-bed hospital serving the entire region, in a rare accomplishment and sign of continuous and exceptional patient care, has earned its ninth consecutive ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Group uses publicly available hospital data, focusing on patient-safety metrics, to assign letter grades, creating a health care consumer guide for patients to make informed decisions on their care.
Earning another ‘A’ keeps McLaren Central Michigan among the top hospitals in the country, recognizing the hospital and its staff’s achievement in protecting patients from harm.
“Our team has built its culture on quality and the passion we all share to provide the best care to our community,” said Dr. Ashok Vashishta, chief medical officer of McLaren Central Michigan. “To have this sustained level of achievement shows that this culture is hardwired into our organization. Our pride in this accomplishment is shared with those who made it possible — our entire staff of dedicated caregivers and health care professionals.”
Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, and the results are available for free.
The latest Leapfrog ‘A’ follows McLaren Central Michigan’s designation as a 5-star hospital, a rating determined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, CMS, the federal agency providing oversite over the nation’s hospitals. Of the more than 6,000 hospitals in the United States, just 13 percent earn this highest rating.
