McLaren Oakland, City of Pontiac Partner to Bring Eastern Market to Oakland County

McLaren Oakland has partnered with The City of Pontiac and Eastern Market to sponsor a weekly local market and offer a readily available supply of fresh produce.

Every Thursday through October, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Eastern Market in Pontiac will host an open-air sale of its various fruits and vegetables along Perry Street outside of McLaren Oakland, near Huron Street.

“This has been a fun and inspiring project, made all the more exciting by it being right outside our offices, and we are grateful to see if finally materialize,” said Laura Harmon, McLaren Oakland Chief Nursing Officer. “The correlation between access to fresh produce and greater overall health is well established, and to have a partner as renown as the Eastern Market makes it all the more special to those of us involved, especially the local community.”

Hosting its first sale on Thurs., July 11, Eastern Market in Pontiac offered a rainbow variety of bell peppers, bunches of bananas, avocados, spicy peepers, and ears of corn on the cob — a summer favorite — among other produce that will vary each week.

“The aim of opening this produce market is to create a regular and reliable offering of accessible fresh fruits and vegetables, while making it as convenient as possible for our Pontiac residents," said Pontiac Mayor Tim Greimel. "A huge thank you to Eastern Market and McLaren Oakland for their incredible support. Together, we can make a difference.”
