The McLaren Oakland Foundation and Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Clarkston are the grateful recipients of a Chrysler Town & Country van generously donated by the LaFontaine Automotive Group to benefit active cancer patients who might not have reliable transportation to and from their life-saving treatment.
"It would be incredibly unfortunate to a patient if they had to delay or cancel treatment because they didn't have access to reliable transportation." said Chad Grant, president and CEO of McLaren Oakland. "Now, with the generosity of the LaFontaine family, that should never be an issue."
Says Jennifer Thamer, executive director of the McLaren Oakland Foundation, a cancer diagnosis has many far-reaching effects that many do not realize.
While cancer has the biggest impact on the patient, a diagnosis truly affects the entire family," Thamer said. "Anything we can do to help make their treatment smoother, with something as simple as offering them a ride, we'll strive to provide."
"We have experienced first-hand the effects a cancer diagnosis can have on a whole family," said Kelley LaFontaine, owner of the LaFontaine Automotive Group. "If this donation can help in any way to help lessen the burden of a diagnosis, then we have accomplished our goal."
