Meet Alicia
Registered Nurse
Alicia resides in Shelby Township and has been married to her husband, Brad, for 8 years. Together they have two sons, 6 and 3 years old, and enjoy traveling, crafts and many outdoor activities.
She developed an interest in health care as a health care co-op during her junior year at Utica High School where she graduated as a nurse's assistant. She graduated from nursing school in 2003 and began working at McLaren Macomb soon after.
As a registered nurse, Alicia has worked on several units including the emergency department, where she currently works the midnight shift.
As an RN in the ED, Alicia treats patients and advocates for their physical and mental health. She also provides comfort to their family members.
Alicia is grateful to be a part of the McLaren Macomb family. She often points out, "I think McLaren Macomb chose me for a reason! I started as a high school co-op student and moved through the ranks. My being here seems to be a natural fit."
Alicia feels most humbled when a patient and family acknowledges their satisfaction with the care they receive. "To sum it all up," she says, "their gratification is both refreshing and rewarding and reminds me of why I chose a path to nursing. Patient satisfaction also means preparing patients to manage their health beyond their stay in the hospital to prevent further occurrences."
What inspires and motivates Alicia most about her job is that despite seeing people on the worst days of their lives, she is often able to alleviate their discomfort and help in their healing process.
To help alleviate the everyday stress associated with her job, Alicia often turns to her ever-supportive co-workers, many of whom have mentored her over the years. She considers them family.
Her advice for new healthcare employees, "Ask questions. Reach out to your co-workers and learn from them. Be patient, helpful and kind."
When time permits, Alicia enjoys volunteering for departmental projects.
