The Employee of the Month Award is presented to an employee whose exemplary performance, professionalism and leadership contributes to McLaren Macomb's mission and core values. Meet Magda Cardiovascular Technician Magda was born and raised in Warsaw, Poland. Upon graduation from Warsaw University, Magda immigrated to the United States. After living in Chicago for two years, Magda moved to Detroit. Despite having to adjust to a new language and culture, Magda immersed herself in a variety of jobs, including hotel maid, nanny and waitress. Doing so helped her quickly to learn the English language. As her degree from Warsaw University was not recognized in the United States, Magda enrolled in the EKG and invasive cardiology technologist program at Carnegie Institute in Troy. Magda was hired by Mount Clemens General Hospital in the heart center where she has worked for 12 years. Magda is single mom of a son who attends the University of Michigan and a daughter who attends Michigan State University. She currently resides in Oakland County. As a cardiovascular technician at McLaren Macomb's Mat Gaberty Heart Center, Magda performs noninvasive cardiac testing. She is an administrator for cardiovascular software and is responsible for educating hospital staff. She serves as a liaison between noninvasive cardiology and other departments and is responsible for many other technical-related aspects of the department. What inspires and motivates Magda most about her job is caring for patients. She believes that when patients come to us for help they are often fearful of the unknown but believe we can help them feel better. And so, Magda believes, it is important to provide the highest level of care to each patient. Knowing that patients come from many diverse backgrounds, Magda always focuses on learning more about each patient's customs and beliefs. It is not uncommon for patients and fellow co-workers to commend Magda for the compassion and patience she demonstrates towards them. Magda is most grateful to McLaren Macomb for the opportunity she was provided. She has worked diligently to learn English, however her native Polish allows her to communicate with patients who have also emigrated from Poland. She considers McLaren Macomb the best teaching hospital, one that provides challenges as well as the latest in medical advances. She also enjoys teaching and helping others succeed. Magda believes that high patient satisfaction is the result of the positive experience patients encounter throughout their time of care at McLaren Macomb. She participates in McLaren Macomb health clinics, Habitat for Humanity and is active in her Polish community. She enjoys reading, biking, hiking and spending time outside with her two dogs. She hopes to soon visit with her son and daughter as well as family and friends overseas.
