Meet Nicole
RN in the Cardiac Cath Lab
Born and raised in Sterling Heights, Nicole now lives a short distance away in Columbus. Upon recognizing her calling to serve and support others, she entered the nursing program at Baker College, where she earned her nursing degree.
Upon completing her preceptorship for nursing school at McLaren Macomb, she felt a connection that beckoned her to stay. This year she celebrates 12 years at McLaren Macomb. Says Nicole, "I love working at McLaren Macomb."
Nicole currently works as an RN in the cardiac cath lab. Her responsibilities include caring for patients while they undergo different procedures, such as angioplasty or stent placement. She also assists in operating the equipment during procedures. Her passion, however, is monitoring critical patients while comforting and supporting them, and ensuring they receive the best care.
Nicole is inspired by her amazing co-workers, including experienced nurses, RCISs and doctors. "I credit them for always setting a good example. That encourages me to always strive to do what's best for patients and others. They have set the bar high. I look up to them as they drive me to continue to learn and be a better nurse."
Though nursing may at times be stressful, Nicole believes maintaining a positive attitude and relying on her co-workers to keep her well-grounded.
Her goal when caring for patients is to help them achieve positive outcomes. "The majority of patients we see are at their most vulnerable, and helping them through a most difficult time is truly rewarding."
Nicole understands how important it is to go the extra mile to ensure patient satisfaction. For many patients and their family members, "just a hot cup of coffee or a warm blanket is most comforting and much appreciated."
When away from her job, Nicole enjoys spending time with her husband and son.
