The McLaren Wound Care Clinic specializes in treating acute and chronic hard-to-heal wounds. The clinic recently welcomed three new physicians to join Mark Williams, DPM, board-certified in podiatric surgery and a fellow of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons, who has been caring for patients at the clinic since 2003.
Those new clinical experts are Michael Eigenberg, MD, FACS, general surgeon; Krysta Schroeder, DPM, CWSP, board-certified in wound management; and Jason Weslosky, DPM.
The entire specialized team of doctors, and nurses, is solely dedicated to treating wounds, including many that have resisted healing after months and even years of traditional treatment. McLaren was the first area hospital to offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) and the care team uses only proven, advanced treatment techniques.
“It is very rewarding to help a patient heal a persistent wound,” said Dr. Williams. “Our primary objective is to heal wounds quickly and thoroughly to restore patients’ carefree, active lives.
“Patients often tolerate wounds because they are unaware of the resources available to them at a robust wound center such as ours. Patients receive individualized, multidisciplinary care at the McLaren Flint Wound Center. It is magical to see the delight on a patient’s face when they realize that, here, they will get the quality treatment they deserve.”
The types of wounds treated include:
- Vascular leg ulcers
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Pressure ulcers,
- Surgical or traumatic wounds
- Wounds caused by edema, cancer, radiation treatment, burns, infections and scleroderma.
McLaren Flint’s Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Program has a long history of successfully treating patients with:
- Diabetic wounds,
- Complications from radiation therapy
- Chronic bone infections
- Non-healing skin grafts or flaps
- Crush injuries.
Studies have shown that hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases an individual’s ability to heal wounds. The use of HBO, in combination with advanced wound care, has been proven to prevent amputations. It is a thoroughly tested, FDA-approved, completely safe and painless therapy that has helped thousands of patients heal faster and better than ever before.
