McLaren Central Michigan, part of McLaren Health Care and the leading Isabella County health care provider, has awarded a pair of local students with its Louise Williams Volunteer Scholarships, aiding in their educations toward eventual careers in health care. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or graduate program, involved in their community or hospital, and maintain a high grade point average.
Local students Paige Sian and Shelby Trevino each received partial scholarships as part of the program, which was established upon the personal request of Louise Williams, following a hospital committee’s review of their applications.
“Pursuing a career in health care takes true commitment and dedication, and it’s motivated by one’s desire to care for others,” said Robert David, McLaren Central Michigan President and CEO. “The merits displayed by the recipients of this year’s Louise Williams Volunteer Scholarship make them very deserving, and we wish them the very best in their pursuits.”
Graduating from Mount Pleasant High School this spring, Paige will begin at Central Michigan University in the fall of 2023. Aiming for a career as an orthopedic and sports medicine physician, she will double major in exercise science and marketing while minoring in leadership and dietetics & nutrition.
Shelby, having graduated from Central Michigan University after earning her Bachelor of Science in clinical exercise science in 2022, returned to CMU to complete her Masters of Physician Assistant for her eventual career. She’s already had the opportunity to care for patients, having worked the past two years as a patient care technician and clinical exercise physiologist.
