McLaren Lapeer, part of statewide McLaren Health Care, in honor of those who served in the United States Military and keeping to its commitment as stewards of the community’s wellbeing, will assist in organizing the Michigan Veteran’s Benefit Fair along with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) and Lapeer County Veterans Services.
Hosted at the American Legion Post #16 on May 21 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) the event is free to attend, and those interested can register at easternMIVBF.eventbrite.com.
“We consider it part of our responsibility and role as the primary provider of health care services in this community to not only care for patients, but to actively contribute to its overall wellbeing,” said Tim Vargas, McLaren Lapeer Region President and Chief Executive Officer. “Not only are we here to provide for the men and women who served and sacrificed, but for their families as well. Providing access to engage with knowledgeable and experienced health care professionals is a worthy undertaking and one we are proud to commit to.”
Representatives from several McLaren Lapeer Region service lines will be onsite to meet and consult with veterans, including: orthopedics, neurology, emergency medicine, primary care, bariatrics, and cancer services.
Officials from the MVAA and Lapeer County Veterans Service will also host veterans to assist in housing, employment and education opportunities, applications for state and federal benefits, and assistance in obtaining military records (DD-214) among other services specific to service veterans.
“We are earnest in our effort to make it more convenient for veterans to navigate the benefits and access the resources they have earned,” said Eric Fisher, Veterans Engagement Officer, MVAA Regions 5 & 6. “It is through this free event that we are able to provide the connection to those benefits.”
The American Legion Post #16 is located at 1701 West Genesee Street (near Lincoln Street) in Lapeer. Registration for the event can be made online at easternMIVBF.eventbrite.com. Veterans and their dependents can learn more about connecting with their benefits and other resources by calling 1-800-MICH-VET.
