Karah Sorensen Is Honored with the Extraordinary Employee of the Season Award

Karah Sorensen, lead technologist in the catheterization lab, was honored as the newest recipient of McLaren Greater Lansing’s Extraordinary Employee of the Season Award. This award acknowledges any employee in the hospital system for the extraordinary work they do.

Sorensen’s nomination stated, “Karah is always going way beyond normal duties and her job title to help patients, staff, and physicians with daily procedures and cases. We do not have a current director or manager in our department, and she is always helping to take on extra work with a good attitude. She stays late and picks up a ton of extra calls to help other staff with sickness or medical leave and family plans. Karah helps prepare schedules and plans for daily procedures, trains new staff and students, and presents educational information routinely.”

Sorensen has been with McLaren for over 13 years, first working in the radiology department and eventually moving into the cath lab department as a registered cardiovascular invasive specialist (RCIS). She is known within the department as being a leader, often training and supporting staff where needed and going the extra mile in her career.

“I truly love working in the cath lab, and it is such a privilege to work beside our team and our team of doctors,” said Sorensen. “We get to be there for our patients – sometimes in their greatest moment of need –and I am endlessly thankful for getting this opportunity to care for them.”

McLaren Greater Lansing launched this new recognition program in 2024. The award is given out to an individual each quarter. Nominees can be clinical or non-clinical staff at all levels and are chosen internally by McLaren staff.
