McLaren Macomb, the 288-bed acute care hospital serving all of Macomb County, has been designated by Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBS) as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care. Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® is a directory created to identify facilities with proven expertise in delivering specialty care.
This is a 3-year designation expiring at the end of 2021.
“Patients living with a form of cardiovascular disease or have any issue with their heart may feel scared and vulnerable, and they come to us for help,” said Stacy McDougall, director of cardiovascular services at McLaren Macomb. “Our patients have come to expect first-rate care, and this designation was earned thanks in large part to our exceptional caregivers and physicians who strive to provide that quality care.”
The Blue Distinction Centers program was developed with input from the medical community and evaluates hospitals’ specialty care and their ability to deliver high-quality outcomes. Those centers recognized by the Blue Distinction Centers program “have a proven history of exceptional care and results.”
As stated on the Blue Distinction Center website, by earning the distinction, “these centers demonstrate better quality care, improved patient outcomes, including lower complication rates following certain cardiac procedures.”
A Macomb County leader in cardiovascular care, McLaren Macomb was recently included on the nationwide list of 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by IBM Watson Health and is the only hospital in the county performing the minimally invasive TAVR heart valve replacement procedure.
