A person may seek out a vascular lab for a number of reasons, such as checking for circulation or blood flow issues. These labs diagnose vascular conditions such as peripheral arterial disease (PAD), stroke, aneurysms, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can often be life-threatening. The McLaren Greater Lansing Vascular Lab, accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), uses advanced technology to provide accurate imaging and testing results for early detection and diagnosis of these serious conditions.
“Our lab upholds high-quality standards, and through this accreditation, it showcases the hard work our team performs into providing the best care and testing options available for our patients,” said Dr. Peter Burke, interventional cardiologist at McLaren Greater Lansing Cardiovascular Associates and medical director for the McLaren Greater Lansing Vascular Lab.
The lab provides diagnostic imaging, including various noninvasive vascular ultrasounds, to patients that come to the McLaren Greater Lansing emergency department complaining of cardiovascular or vascular problems such as shortness of breath, weak pulse, muscle fatigue (usually in the legs), coldness of the limbs, or stroke-like indicators. They will have testing performed in the vascular lab to diagnose any health complications, be treated on-site, and have the resources for follow-up care with the cardiovascular clinics.
“The uniqueness of our vascular lab is that it is integrated with our cardiovascular clinics as well as our VTE Clinic and Vascular Clinic for a collaborative effort in diagnosing and treating vascular diseases,” said Dr. Burke. “Having state-of-the-art imaging technology on hand allows us to properly diagnose patients who come into the emergency room along with provide education, treatment plans, and interventional therapeutic modalities on critical cases that help reduce morbidity and mortality and result in a shorter hospitalization time.”
The lab also provides testing and support for outpatient services and cardiologists, like Dr. Burke, so they can work directly with patients’ primary care providers to assist in treatment options and medication dosage.
