– McLaren Hospice was recently recognized for its continued efforts to honor and support
the veteran community with a three-star designation from the We Honor Veterans (WHV) program. The
recognition builds on McLaren Hospice’s outstanding reputation assisting veterans through hospice care.
“Michigan’s veterans are heroic individuals who deserve care and compassion when they need it most, and
we’re proud to serve those who served us,” said Cynthia Tomlinson, MSN, RN, vice president of hospice at
McLaren Health Management Group. “We take pride ensuring high quality care for all our patients, and we
recognize and work to exceed the unique needs of our veteran patients.”
We Honor Veterans, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in
collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), collaborates with organizations to focus on respectful
inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment of veterans in the post retirement world. The
organization helps promote veteran-centric educational activities, increase organizational capacity to serve
veterans, support development of strategic partnerships, and increase access and improve quality of life for
veterans at the end of their lives.
As a partner of WHV, McLaren demonstrates a systematic commitment to improving care for veterans.
Partner organizations like McLaren assess their ability to serve veterans and utilize WHV program resources to
integrate end-of-life care best practices for veterans. McLaren’s hospice team was previously recognized by WHV
with a two-star recognition for providing veteran-centric education for staff and volunteers, identifying patients
with military experience, and building organizational capacity to provide quality care for veterans. We Honor
Veteran’s three-star distinction recognizes McLaren for building on its continued commitment by developing and
strengthening relationships with VA medical centers and other veteran organizations.
“We’re exceptionally proud of the care and support we provide our patients, our veteran patients, and
veterans outside our care as well,” said Tomlinson.
McLaren Hospice’s dedication to veterans is built upon its commitment to excellence in clinical quality,
which ranks above state and national averages. For those interested in entering a loved one into McLaren Hospice,
