McLaren Macomb earns 2018 Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades

MOUNT CLEMENS—McLaren Macomb, the 288-bed acute care hospital serving all of Macomb County, has earned a 2018 Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades, a nationwide list recognizing hospitals for their “performance in safeguarding patients from serious, potentially preventable complications during their hospital stay.”

Healthgrades’ mission is “to provide trusted information that helps consumers and providers make meaningful connections.” Inclusion on the list of this year’s recipients places McLaren Macomb among the top 10 percent of acute care hospitals nationwide for patient safety.

This is the third patient safety award McLaren Macomb has received in 2018.

“Maintaining a safe and compassionate environment of healing for our patients will always be our priority and a promise to our patients,” said Dr. Beth Wendt, McLaren Macomb chief of staff and medical director of quality. “Key initiatives were implemented to address even the potential for patient risk, and it has been our staff of bedside caregivers leading the way to ensure our promise is fulfilled.”

Data is tracked and measures a hospital’s effectiveness in preventing injuries, infections and other serious conditions while patients are in their care. Healthgrades considers 14 patient safety indicators and other measurements to create the list of recipients.

Previously this year, McLaren Macomb was awarded a 2018 Hospital Patient Safety Award from the Economic Alliance for Michigan and an ‘A’ grade in the Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.
