McLaren Oakland emergency physician Dr. Nikolai Butki has been recognized for his contributions to the development of the hospital’s medical students, resident physicians and faculty physicians. Awarded by the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, Dr. Butki is the 2021 recipient of the Benjamin A. Field, DO Mentor of the Year.
This recognition is earned by a physician who demonstrates “outstanding dedication to teaching emergency physicians, residents and students.”
“It’s a tremendous honor to receive this award, and it’s one that, honestly, was made possible by the many skilled people I surround myself with, those whose own accomplishments are numerous,” Dr. Butki said. “I consider it a privilege, though, to be able to promote this profession on as many levels as possible and I am humbled by the recognition.”
In addition to his duties as a physician at the McLaren Oakland and McLaren Clarkston emergency departments, Dr. Butki has been the emergency medicine residency program medical director since 2018 (he had been the associate director since 2009).
During that time, he also served in various teaching and lecturing roles at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, including serving as chair of the school’s Admission Committee.
ACOEP is a national organization comprised of emergency medicine physicians dedicated to the advancement of the field and its annual awards are earned by physicians who have devoted their careers to its advancement.
