In partnership with the Manna Food Project, McLaren Northern Michigan and McLaren Health Plan have helped extend the organization’s reach into Petoskey to better serve local families experiencing food insecurity.

Headquartered and based in Harbor Springs, Manna’s partnership with McLaren allows it to expand into Petoskey and provide its aid and goodwill for the community’s hungry families.

In support of this partnership, McLaren Health Plan hosted Manna for a pop-up, drive-through mobile pantry at its McLaren MedCenter Petoskey – South family practice and walk-in clinic, near the main campus of McLaren Northern Michigan hospital.

“Food insecurity is a worry that is top-of-mind for countless families across the country, and it’s the community-based organizations that directly address this issue,” said David Monan, McLaren Northern Michigan Chief Nursing Officer. “Learning more about the Manna Food Project, its history in the region, and seeing how our missions closely align in our shared goal of providing for the community’s overall health and well-being, this is a partnership we’re proud to support and thrilled to see the impact it’s already achieved.”

On Oct. 11, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., more than 75 cars representing 100-plus local Petoskey families were provided with boxes of food.

Having experienced the need in its community firsthand, McLaren again will host a pop-up clinic at McLaren MedCenter Petoskey – South on Wed., Nov. 22 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

“The Manna Food Project relies on partnerships and community support to serve our mission to feed people throughout the north,” said Carrie Klingelsmith, Manna Food Project Executive Director. “We are so grateful for our new partnership with McLaren to raise awareness and get food to those that need it the most in our local community.”

With a mission to feed the hungry of Antrim, Charlevoix, and Emmet counties, Manna Food Pantry operates its Harbor Springs-based food pantry distribution center and regular partners with local organizations to organize mobile pantries, providing food where the need exists most.
