McLaren Port Huron receives trauma verification from the American College of Surgeons

Port Huron, MI – McLaren Port Huron has been verified as a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This verification demonstrates McLaren Port Huron’s commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients.

“This verification allows us to care for a wider range of serious emergencies,” said Jennifer Montgomery, McLaren Port Huron president and chief executive officer. “It means exceeding national standards for trauma care staffing, injury prevention and quality improvement. When EMS calls, our trauma team is activated and ready to provide the best available care when the ambulance arrives.”

As a Level III Trauma Center, McLaren Port Huron provides:
•    24-hour immediate coverage by emergency medicine physicians and the prompt availability of general surgeons, orthopedic surgeons and anesthesiologists
•    A comprehensive quality improvement program
•    Transfer agreements for patients requiring care at Level I or Level II trauma centers
•    Back-up treatment for rural and community hospitals
•    Ongoing education of the nursing and allied health personnel and the trauma team
•    Prevention efforts and an active outreach program for its referring communities

McLaren Port Huron is the first health care facility in St. Clair County to be verified as a Level III trauma center by the ACS. As such, it raises the level of care the hospital offers to the community.

“We are advancing to meet the growing health care needs of our community,” Montgomery said. “We do it because providing the highest quality patient care experience has always been at the core of what we do.”

McLaren Port Huron is also designated as a Level III Trauma Center by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
