McLaren Thumb Region earns recognition as the only hospital within Huron County to receive a five-star rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS).
CMS reviews hospitals annually for overall quality of care and gives star ratings based on five categories: mortality, the safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care.
“It is an honor to receive five-star recognition for our high quality care. This achievement was earned through the hard work and dedication of our staff and physicians," said Matt Rick, Interim President and CEO of McLaren Thumb Region. “Maintaining goals and values through the pandemic reveals the heart of an organization. It is truly a reflection of McLaren's unwavering commitment to our patients.”
The new 2021 methodology summarizes various measures across the five areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital. The methodology for calculating the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating was developed with input from stakeholders and members of the public and finalized in the Calendar Year (CY) 2021 Medicare Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System and Ambulatory Surgical Center Payment System Proposed Rule (CMS-1736-P).
McLaren Thumb Region is among 455 hospitals to receive a five-star rating, one of 21 within the state, and the only hospital in Huron County. Here is a breakdown of the star ratings:
One-star: 204 hospitals
Two-stars: 690
Three-stars: 1,018
Four-stars: 988
Five stars: 455
