McLaren Flint is pleased to announce July's Outstanding Employee of the Month, April Gulewich, RN, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Leadership honored April at the end of July.

April has worked at McLaren Flint since she was a nursing student. She takes pride in serving the community alongside her “great” coworkers. One thing is abundantly clear: April’s colleagues enjoy working with her, too. All three of her nominators noted that she comes into the PACU with a smile on her face every day.

"April always has a kind word for her patients and coworkers. She is very attentive to her patients," said unit clerk Laura Martin.

Audrey Griswold, RN, said, "April never hesitates to step in and help. She is not only fantastic with her patients, but everyone she encounters."

"April is a joy to work with and can make a bad day into a good day," said Denise Osterwyk, CNA. "I am thankful to work with her."

That positive attitude is something April says gets her through all of the ups and downs of life.

“I have been through a lot in my life, and I appreciate all the moments that make me smile. Someone always has it worse than your biggest problem and I witness this every day as a nurse. I truly live by the words ‘tomorrow is not promised,’" April said.

McLaren Flint managers, directors, and executive leadership nominate Outstanding Employee of the Month candidates. Award criteria are the hospital's mission and core values: contribution to culture and core values, teamwork, going the extra mile, outstanding patient service, performance excellence, and commitment.
