About
Dr. Jinu Puthenparampil Mathew, MD, FACP, is an internal medicine physician with McLaren Medical Group. Dr. Mathew grew up in a medical household. “My mother formerly worked as a nurse and visiting her in the hospital fascinated me from a young age. As a teen I enjoyed volunteering at local hospitals, whether running lab samples or transporting patients, and found immense satisfaction in the ability to bring a smile to my patients. These experiences helped me decide to pursue a healthcare career,” said Dr. Mathew. “I take a holistic approach with each patient. My duty as a primary care Internist is to put the pieces together and treat the patient as a whole rather than treating each medical condition. My special interests include diagnosing complex conditions, managing diabetes, obesity, mental health disorders, and the geriatric population as a whole.”
Before joining McLaren, Dr. Mathew held multiple leadership positions. While in residency training, he was the GME representative for the IM program, captain of the doctor's dilemma team, and co-authored the Rapid Response handbook for the IM program. He received multiple accolades during his time there, including intern of the year, best outgoing resident, and most popular resident.
Post residency training, Dr. Mathew continued to partake in leadership positions including serving as a board member in the Board of Directors for his physician group and the Collaborative Care Organization (CCO). He also functioned as a physician dyad leader and as a mentor for new providers joining the system.
He is currently in the process of completing his Master's in Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree from SVSU.
Dr. Mathew is very passionate about teaching. “I want to help train the next generation of doctors so that they may go out and practice medicine effectively, cost-consciously, and with a patient-centric approach.”
