McLaren Port Huron is a 186-bed non-profit hospital located in Port Huron, Mich., with a strong history of providing quality, compassionate care to residents living in St. Clair and Sanilac counties.

McLaren Port Huron provides a full range of services, including cardiovascular care, award-winning cancer services through the Karmanos Cancer Institute, orthopedic services, and general, bariatric and robotic-assisted surgeries. The hospital has earned repeated recognition for both clinical excellence and patient safety from nationally renowned health care rating organizations. It is nationally verified as a Level III Trauma Center, operates the busiest Emergency Department in St. Clair County, and is the only Graduate Medical Education program in the region. Other services include family birthing services and the only accredited sleep center in the region.

In addition to its main campus in Port Huron, the hospital operates community health centers in Marysville, Yale, Lexington, and St. Clair.

Seeking accreditation in 2024, we will be offering exceptional training opportunities in Internal Medicine (IM) and Family Medicine (FM). We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming our inaugural class of residents and embarking on this exciting journey together.

Annual Salaries (Effective 2024-2025):

PGY-1 = $57,165.00
PGY-2 = $58,879.95
PGY-3 = $60,646.35

Note: McLaren payroll is on a bi-weekly cycle.

DISCLAIMER: The Graduate Medical Education Trainee Physician/Psychologist Agreements are posted here as "sample only" to give applicants an idea of what to expect as a contracted employee of McLaren. This agreement is reviewed annually and thus the language is subject to change.

An official contract will be distributed to all matched residents and fellows in the month of March for training positions starting in July-August as part of an onboarding checklist. Any off-cycle positions will receive a contract/onboarding checklist approximately two weeks after official acceptance into a program.

With an exception of the 2024 MATCH season, all McLaren Port Huron residency and fellowship programs participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and require applicants to apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants for residency positions in the 2024 MATCH (training start date of July 1, 2024) should apply as otherwise directed by the program.

All communication during the application process until the official program match days shall occur through the interview platform only. Applicants should not contact the program in-person or by phone, except as requested by the program.

All applicants must be authorized to work in the USA, or must be a Canadian citizen or Canadian permanent resident who is eligible for J-1 visa sponsorship.

Prior to the official hire date, McLaren Port Huron Graduate Medical Education trainees are required to:

  • Pass a background check
  • Pass a drug screen
  • Provide or obtain required immunizations (TB test, Flu Shot, COVID-19)
  • Be eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan as a physician/psychologist with license effective July 1 (or hire date for those programs starting at a later date)
  • Provide copy of diploma with DO, MD, PhD or PsyD degree or ECFMG certificate with proof of medical degree

COVID-19 Vaccines:

McLaren Health Care complies with the healthcare worker vaccine mandate, which requires all workers, including residents, fellows, and visiting learners to be fully vaccinated as of March 15, 2022. If you have specific questions related to the program you are interested in applying to, please contact the program’s Academic Program Administrator.
