McLaren Thumb Region, part of McLaren Health Care and the critical access hospital expanding care to its community, and its McLaren Thumb Region Auxiliary have awarded five college-bound high school seniors with partial scholarships.
An annual recognition, scholarships are awarded to students who intend to continue their studies in a health care field.
The 2024 recipients (pictured Left to Right) are:
Jordan Dooley from Caseville High School — plans to major in Biology at Saginaw Valley State University and pursue Pre-Med thereafter.
Kathryn Gorkowski from Bad Axe High School — plans to major in Nursing at Saginaw Valley State University.
Regan Hobkirk from Bad Axe High School — plans to major in Nursing at Grand Valley State University.
Alexis Bucholtz from Bad Axe High School — plans to major in Nursing at Saginaw Valley State University.
Trista Prill from Bad Axe High School — plans to major in Nursing at Saginaw Valley State University.
“To seek a career in health care takes dedication and commitment, but more than anything, it’s a sign that this individual has a desire to help and care for others,” said Connie Koutouzos, President and CEO of McLaren Caro Region and McLaren Thumb Region. “The quality these students display make them very deserving, and we wish them the very best in their higher education and career pursuits.”
Working with local high school guidance counselors and led by chair Marj Wehner, the McLaren Thumb Region Auxiliary accept and review all scholarship applications, taking into consideration each applicant’s service to the community, academic achievement, and a submitted essay in which he or she define the reason they chose their area of study.
The McLaren Thumb Region Auxiliary will award medical scholarships next year to the class of 2025. Students can learn more about the application process by asking their counselor.
