McLaren Bay Region, part of Grand Blanc-based McLaren Health Care and the leading health care provider to the Bay Region, has appointed three vice presidents, providing the hospital with a full complement of executives for the organization’s senior leadership team. Those recently joining McLaren Bay Region are Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kenneth Parsons, Chief Nursing Officer Stacey Klump, and Chief Financial Officer Sean Fischer.
“We’re fortunate to have added these three executives to our senior leadership team, and through their addition, we’ve created an experienced, well-rounded, and dynamic group,” said Darrell Lentz, McLaren Bay Region president and CEO. “With this team, I feel very confident about what we can collectively accomplish for our organization and the community we’re grateful to serve.”
Upon his May 1 start date, Fischer will officially complete McLaren Bay Region’s executive leadership team, joining Klump and Dr. Parsons, who joined the organization weeks prior.
“Through its ability to create and deliver access to an array of much-needed health care services, McLaren Bay Region is a vital asset to its community,” said Chad Grant, McLaren Health Care Chief Operating Officer. “With its executive leadership fully in place, their collaborative efforts will result in further, measurable success in the care and service it provides to the Bay Region.”
Kenneth Parsons, MD, MBA, MPH, FACEP, a board-certified emergency medicine physician, will lead the McLaren Bay Region medical staff as Chief Medical Officer, where he will serve as liaison between the staff and hospital administration, provide clinical and administrative oversight for patient safety and quality, utilization management, patient experience, and provide innovation to process and procedures for care delivery service lines.
A practicing emergency physician since 1996, Dr. Parsons most recently served as the regional medical director for TeamHealth, providing oversight to numerous emergency departments across the Midwest to the Northeast Coast. His history with McLaren Health Care began in the early 2000s when he — in addition to clinical duties — served in leadership positions of increasing responsibility at McLaren Flint, McLaren Lapeer Region, and McLaren Bay Region, serving primarily as chief of emergency medicine. During this tenure, he served as physician champion in the development of the certified stroke center, trauma program, chest pain center, and served as vice chair of the foundation board.
A Michigan native, Dr. Parsons began his education by earning a Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Oakland University and a Master of Public Health in epidemiology and biostatistics from the University of Michigan. He returned to Wayne State for his Doctor of Medicine degree and stayed in Detroit for his medical training at St. John Hospital and Medical Center. He returned to school in 2019, earning his Physician Executive Master of Business Administration degree from the Haslam School of Business at the University of Tennessee.
As Chief Nursing Officer, Stacey Klump, RN, MSN, will provide administrative leadership and support to the nursing staff to create a positive, collaborative, and patient-focused environment of care.
Klump began her career as a staff nurse in 1997, spending nearly a decade in this role at a hospital in her native mid-Michigan. She rose in the organization, earning promotions to manager and, ultimately, director roles, overseeing hundreds of nurses and directing the care for countless patients.
Along the way, she also assumed roles in academia, imparting firsthand experience to nursing students as an adjunct clinical nursing instructor — first at Delta College in Bay City, then Saginaw Valley State University, her alma mater from which she earned her nursing degree before returning for her advanced Master of Science in Nursing degree.
Sean Fischer, CPA, CHFP, MBA, leading the hospital’s financial management and actions as its Chief Financial Officer, brings a wealth of experience having worked for both not-for-profit and for-profit health care providers. He arrives in-state after most recently serving as CFO of two Indiana-based hospitals, navigating and minimizing the financial impact of COVID-19.
Fischer has served in health care leadership roles for more than 10 years after beginning his career with international advisory firm KPMG, where many of his clients were based in the health care industry.
He earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University before advancing his education at Louisiana State University, earning his Master of Business Administration.
