Program Information:
The McLaren Academic Health Psychology Programs (MAHPP) provides a 12-month predoctoral internship experience in clinical health psychology with an emphasis on integrated behavioral health services as part of a robust Graduate Medical Education program at McLaren Macomb and McLaren Oakland. The internship is primarily housed within McLaren Macomb with one primary rotation occurring at McLaren Oakland. McLaren Health Care is an engaging and dynamic system with opportunities for membership on committees, scholarly activity, and promotion of professional goals. MAHPP also has an APA-accredited postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology emphasizing medical education and MAHPP interns are competitive for these training positions. Interns gain clinical experience in integrated primary care in Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, chronic pain management, lifestyle medicine, and integrated behavioral health in Emergency Medicine.
Upon successful completion of the MAHPPCHP Internship, interns will be able to demonstrate the following:
• Competency in Clinical Health Psychology practice
• Advanced knowledge of Integrated Primary Care model of service delivery
• Expertise in hospital and ambulatory practice involving a transdisciplinary model within a team process approach
• The ability to critically review research, adopting a commitment to lifelong learning
MAHPP Interns are employed by McLaren Macomb and complete clinical activities in the Family Medicine Residency Clinic, Internal Medicine Residency Clinic, and Emergency Department. They will also complete a rotation at the Internal Medicine Residency Clinic at McLaren Oakland with a focus in chronic pain and lifestyle medicine.
