McLaren Greater Lansing Celebrates its 200th TAVR Procedure

McLaren Greater Lansing celebrates its 200th TAVR Implant Procedure

On Thursday, December 5, 2024, McLaren Greater Lansing's Structural Heart and Valve Disease team celebrated a milestone with their 200th implantation of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR).

TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure to treat common heart valve diseases such as aortic stenosis. Unlike conventional procedures, TAVR is done through a small incision allowing patients to have a faster recovery with minimally restrictions.

"TAVR has been a very good option for our patients, including older patients in their 90s," said Dr. Majid Mughal, interventional cardiologist at McLaren Greater Lansing Cardiovascular Associates. "Current data from TAVR trials confirm that the medium- to long-term durability of these transcatheter valves is satisfactory with seeing a longevity of these valves lasting close to 10 to 12 years before needing to be replaced."

Congratulations to our MGL cardiology team on this milestone! To learn more about TAVR at McLaren Greater Lansing, click here
