McLaren Health Care Earns Systemwide Improvement in Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades

McLaren Health Care, with 13 hospitals and multiple care campuses throughout the state, has earned substantial improvement across its system following the release of the Fall 2024 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, a national distinction that recognizes the hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from harm while providing safe, compassionate health care.

Nearly all McLaren hospitals throughout Michigan improved their letter grades over their Spring 2024 Leapfrog release, including two earning ‘A’s — Mount Pleasant-based McLaren Central Michigan and Petoskey-based McLaren Northern Michigan.

A trusted and influential patient guide, the Leapfrog Group uses publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to hospitals twice a year. The methodology is peer-reviewed, and the resulting grades are provided to the public free of charge.

“We are excited to see a decisive improvement across our system in these grades, especially considering the focused and deliberate efforts implemented across our care sites throughout the state,” said Dr. Justin Klamerus, McLaren Health Care Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. “While we have been steadfast in our confidence of the level of safe, quality care provided within our facilities, we also understand and respect the influence Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades have on our patients and communities we serve. We are grateful to all of our physicians and staff that these grades are trending in the direction that is aligned with our culture of safety and clinical excellence. Though the focus on patient safety is one that is always ongoing, it is encouraging to see the efforts of many show promising results.”
