SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich.—BRAvo 2017, McLaren Macomb hospital’s breast cancer awareness and fundraising event, experienced both attendance and philanthropic highs in the event’s 8-year existence. Setting a goal to best last year’s $132,000 total, BRAvo 2017 raised more than $150,000 to put toward its mission of supporting women’s health initiatives.
The record-setting donation amount was made possible by the capacity audience of nearly 1,000 generous supporters.
Enticing donations from the crowd were the four pairs of “Dancing with Our Docs” performers, which paired McLaren Macomb physicians with breast cancer survivors for a spirited dance routine.
“The success of this evening was a direct result of BRAvo’s enthusiastic supporters, brave survivors and our performers who put themselves out there all in the name of raising breast cancer awareness,” said Pat Keigher, McLaren Macomb regional director of cancer services and BRAvo founding member. “At times, it can really be emotionally overwhelming seeing the heartwarming response and generosity of the crowd. It means the world.”
Emceed by WYCD radio personalities Rob Stone and Holly Hutton, proceeds raised by BRAvo will aid in the purchase of a 3D mammogram machine.
Also included in the evening’s festivities were raffles and silent auctions, including elaborately decorated bras as well as those signed by country music stars. On display was cancer survivor-inspired art work sponsored by Lilly Oncology.
Themed “Mammograms are the Girls’ Best Friend,” BRAvo 2017 was hosted at The Palazzo Grande in Shelby Township on Oct. 17.
