McLaren Bay Region’s Dr. Mouawad Named to Newsweek’s America’s Best Vascular Surgeons 2024 List

Dr. Nicolas J. Mouawad, a vascular surgeon with McLaren Bay Region and the hospital’s chief of vascular & endovascular surgery and vice chair of its department of surgery, has been recognized for his exceptional care, earning inclusion on Newsweek’s America’s Best Vascular Surgeons 2024 list.

In its first ever listing, the magazine evaluated publicly available clinical data and quality metrics and surveyed medical experts to develop this inaugural list featuring its top 200 vascular surgeons from around the country.

“This is an incredible honor, and I am deeply grateful and humbled, but the real privilege is to be in this position and make an impact in the communities of the Great Lakes Bay Region,” Dr. Mouawad said. “This is shared with the entire surgical team, whose dedication and commitment to the care of our patients is what made this recognition possible.”

With more than 100,000 cases in the United States last year, vascular surgeons perform specialized procedures to relieve the quality-of-life-limiting symptoms of common, potentially life-threatening conditions, such as repairing damaged blood vessels, creating blood vessel access for dialysis patients, and treating blood clots and aneurysms, a potentially lifesaving procedure.

“We are incredibly proud of Dr. Mouawad, and the level of care he is able to provide the patients of McLaren Bay Region,” said Dr. Binesh Patel, McLaren Medical Group President and CEO. “This achievement is a true testament of his exceptional surgical practice, commitment to every patient, and passion to advance the care he is able to offer his patients.”

Dr. Mouawad, MD, MPH, MBA, DFSVS, FRCS, FACS, RPVI, in his evaluation by Newsweek was rated as being high performing in procedures that improve blood flow in carotid arteries and to the legs, and treatments that treat peripheral vascular disease and varicose veins.

A longtime member of the McLaren Bay Region medical staff and a favorite among his patients, Dr. Mouawad has routinely introduced advanced procedures to the community, as with his T-CAR stroke-prevention procedure, while also administering timely, emergency care, such as his treatment of pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thrombosis, and aortic aneurysms.
