McLaren Central Michigan maintains CMS 5-star rating, ranks among top 10% of nation’s hospitals

McLaren Central Michigan, part of McLaren Health Care and a leading mid-Michigan regional health care provider, has maintained its 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This highest achievable rating signifies the exceptional level of quality and safe care provided within the hospital and through its outpatient facilities located throughout Isabella County and into surrounding areas.

Across the country, 483 hospitals earned a 5-star CMS rating, representing 10.4 percent of all US hospitals, placing McLaren Central Michigan among the top hospitals in Michigan and the nation.

“This is a distinction not earned by a single person, but by our whole team coming together in its shared determination and commitment to our patients,” said Robert David, McLaren Central Michigan President and CEO. “Congratulations and thanks to our entire team, as it’s our clinical, operational, and support staffs and their devotion to the care of this community that made this possible.”

An influential and distinguished health care consumer guide, CMS’s annual star rating is developed following evaluation of all hospitals across the country and their performance in key care metrics, indicating the overall level of safe, quality, and proficient clinical care provided by the organization.

Hospital metrics factored into star ratings include mortality, safety of care, readmission rate, patient experience, and timely and effective care.

“This is a team whose focus on quality and safety, and whose passion to care for its community are foundational,” said Dr. Justin Klamerus, McLaren Health Care Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. “To have earned a distinction that places this team and its care among the nation’s top hospitals shows that those attributes are hardwired into the culture of this organization and validates our team’s efforts to enhance its level of care.”

McLaren Central Michigan has routinely been recognized for its level of safe and high-quality care, having previously earned the 5-star CMS rating it has currently maintained, while also recently earning 9 consecutive ‘A’ patient safety grades from the Leapfrog Group, from the fall of 2018 to the fall of 2022.

Petoskey-based McLaren Northern Michigan, a sister hospital to McLaren Central Michigan and part of McLaren Health Care, also earned a 5-star CMS rating.
