McLaren Central Michigan recognized for excellence in maternity care

McLaren Central Michigan, part of McLaren Health Care and a 5-star rated hospital by CMS, has earned additional honors recognizing its maternity care for mothers giving birth.

As a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center+ for Maternity Care, the team at the McLaren Central Michigan Family Birthing Center has demonstrated “excellence” and “commitment to quality” when delivering newborns and provides “better overall patient satisfaction.”

McLaren Central Michigan also earned a PLATINUM designation from the Michigan Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health. The organization’s highest achievable honor, the designation recognizes labor and delivery programs that have safety processes and procedures in place to combat the leading causes of maternal mortality, which include severe hypertension and hemorrhage.

“With the birth of a child, attention to detail is paramount in order to achieve that moment when a delighted family gets to hold their healthy newborn,” said Jeannie Sage, McLaren Central Michigan Chief Nursing Officer. “We are grateful to mothers and families who continue to put their trust in our care, and, with the affirmation provided by these recognitions, our team remains firmly committed to providing the same level of high-quality care to each and every patient.”

Featuring a team of OB/GYNs with advanced labor and deliver rooms and private postpartum patient rooms for families to spend their first moments together, the McLaren Central Michigan Family Birthing Center delivers approximately 400 babies every year.

“Many women across the country struggle to access the level of maternity care they require, and it is with purposeful, focused effort that we ensure all mothers are cared for in a safe environment,” said Dr. Brian Tesler, an OB/GYN and McLaren Health Care Chief Medical Director of Women’s Health. “Building trust with a community is essential for a provider, and I commend the team at the McLaren Central Michigan Family Birthplace for these achievements.”

Adds Michelle Walton, a nurse on the hospital’s Obstetrics Initiative Committee, “Good patient outcomes and experiences are our number one priority, and the nursing staff and doctors work together to provide the best care possible for all patients.”
