A sensory room is in development at the new McLaren Grand Ledge Freestanding Emergency Department and Ambulatory Care Center, slated to open later this year.
The sensory room, funded by the generosity of Levi’s Link and the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation, will be designed to provide a soothing and calming environment, free of visual and auditory stimulation that could affect people’s nerves and anxiety when in a medical setting.
In 2024, McLaren Port Huron opened a similar sensory bay in which this room will be based off.
Levi’s Link is a program established in 2018 by the Wilson Family to improve the hospital experience of patients with special needs who may be stressed by the normal activity that occurs during a hospital visit. The program is named after Megan Wilson's son, Levi Wilson, who was diagnosed with autism, apraxia of speech, and a sensory processing disorder.
For those who would like to support Levi’s Link can do so by participating in the upcoming Levi’s Link Run. People can either run a 10K, 5K, or one mile at Koenig Materials in Oxford, MI. The event will benefit Levi Link special needs programs at McLaren Port Huron and McLaren Greater Lansing and takes place on Sunday, May 18, at 9 a.m. To learn more or to register, click here.
