McLaren Greater Lansing Reverified as a Level III Trauma Center

McLaren Greater Lansing, part of statewide McLaren Health Care and a provider of comprehensive emergency care, has earned reverification as a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ASC) Committee on Trauma through December 2026.

Requiring regular reverification, this credential is achieved following a thorough onsite evaluation of the hospital’s processes, staff credentials, patient outcomes, and compliance to trauma standards by the ASC.

McLaren Greater Lansing first earned its trauma verification in December 2018 and has maintained its status uninterrupted since.

“We are incredibly grateful to have such a dedicated group of emergency clinicians as part of our organization, though it is their commitment and compassion to providing for their patients that make this team a true asset to our community,” said Kirk Ray, McLaren Greater Lansing President and CEO. “Emergency and trauma services are crucial to a community, and we are thankful to be to continuing providing this level of care to all who need it.”

To achieve trauma center verification, medical centers must meet the rigorous — yet essential — criteria that ensure the capabilities and institutional performance standards set by the American College of Surgeons.

“The reverification process is exacting and meticulous, and it is through their attention to detail and devotion to our patients that our trauma team continues to meet The Joint Commission’s high standard and achieve reverification,” said Dr. Linda Peterson, McLaren Greater Lansing Chief Medical Officer. “And it is with this and every reverification that we renew our promise to the community to be ready for them when they find themselves in need of this critical service.”

McLaren Greater Lansing met the criteria through its ability to “provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care, and stabilization of injury” to patients in an emergency situation. The hospital’s ER is staffed and equipped to provide immediate care 24/7 by emergency physicians, and also have the availability of general surgeons, anesthesiology, radiology services, and operating room staff.
