McLaren Lapeer Region Earns Reverification as a Level II Trauma Center

McLaren Lapeer Region, part of statewide McLaren Health Care and Lapeer County’s only verified trauma center, has earned reverification as a Level II trauma center from the America College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma.

Reverification is earned following a thorough onsite evaluation of the hospital’s trauma processes, patient outcomes, staff credentials, and compliance to the standards set forth by the ACS.

Requiring reverification every three years, McLaren Lapeer Region has maintained its Level II designation uninterrupted since 2013. Medical centers must meet the rigorous — though essential — criteria that ensure institutional performance and care capabilities establishes by the ACS.

“Through every survey process and reverification achievement, our promise to support the community by providing this enhanced level of skilled care is renewed,” said Tim Vargas, McLaren Lapeer Region President and CEO. “These evaluations to earn reverification are an incredibly precise and exacting process, and we are very fortunate to have the expertise and knowledge of an experienced trauma leadership team. We as an organization are grateful for their efforts that made this possible.”

McLaren Lapeer Region met the ACS’s criteria, which is to provide “provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care, and stabilization of injury” to patients in an emergency situation. The hospital’s emergency department is staffed with trauma-trained clinicians and equipped with the technology and services to provide 24/7 care by emergency physicians, with the availability of general surgeons, anesthesiology, radiology services, and operating room staff.
