McLaren Macomb, the 288-bed acute care hospital serving all of Macomb County, was named as one the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals 2021 by Fortune and IBM Watson Health. The annual list spotlights “leading US hospitals that treat a broad spectrum of cardiology patients.”
McLaren Macomb is the only Metro Detroit hospital to be included on the list.
The report highlights the top-performing cardiovascular hospitals in the United States based on publicly available clinical, operational and patient satisfaction data and measurements.
“Earning this recognition is a true measure of the skill and efficiency exhibited by our cardiologists and every member of our cardiovascular service line,” said Tom Brisse, president and CEO of McLaren Macomb. “Most important though, that level of care is passed on to our patients, those who put their trust in us. Reliable heart health cannot be overvalued, and it is a responsibility we all take very seriously. We gladly accept this recognition and will use it as a reminder of our commitment to those patients.”
McLaren Macomb has previously appeared on the list, first earning this distinction in 2018.
McLaren Macomb, through the Mat Gaberty Heart Center, has been the leader in cardiovascular care in the county. Cardiologists have regularly introduced new treatments to the area — minimally invasive procedures performed in one of the cardiac catheterization labs to address patients’ quality-of-life-limiting symptoms and potentially life-threatening conditions.
This year’s study included 980 US hospitals with cardiovascular services. Based on comparisons between the top 50 hospitals and a group of similar hospitals, top 50 hospitals delivered better outcomes while operating more efficiently and at a lower cost.
