Every year, National Nurses Week is celebrated May 6 through May 12, which is Florence Nightingale’s birthday. As part of the Nurses Week festivities, McLaren Greater Lansing highlights one nurse that has gone above and beyond the call of duty.
This year, Morgan Zemer, RN, was selected as the 2021 Nurse of the Year. Zemer works in the McLaren Greater Lansing geropsychiatry unit, where nurses have a high level of compassion and sensitivity.
“Morgan (Zemer) works directly with a very challenging population,” Laurie Beals MSN, RN-BC, manager of the geropsychiatry unit, shared in her nomination. “Her clinical skills have led to best outcomes on numerous occasions. She has responded quickly to patients in a medical and mental health crisis, thus preventing further complications. Morgan (Zemer) has received numerous compliments from patients and their families for providing excellent care.”
Zemer was recognized at the annual Nurse of the Year award ceremony held during National Nurses Week.
“I am proud to have received this award,” said Zemer. “I am grateful for my peers, who have trained me and helped me become the nurse I am today, and my manager Laurie who took the time to recognize and nominate me.”
Qualities leadership at McLaren Greater Lansing look for when selecting a Nurse of the Year include nurses with moral values, confidence, commitment, respectfulness, professionalism, optimism, and goes above and beyond for his or her patients.
Berekty Yohannes, RN, in the Emergency Room, and Stacie Worst, RN, in the hospital, were both also recognized at the ceremony.
